Mogette et L'Aventure du Canal Pas Banal: Part One

Do you know la différence
Between fake and real?
Between Info and
Infaux?

In anglais australien, there is an expression:
"Fair Dinkum"
Une expression d'origine latine, almost never employée
In other English language variétés

Et qui signifie "authentique"...

Mogette was with some True Blue dinkum friends last week.

Voici une petite histoire illustrée
And a few commentaires
About à priori fudge and fakery (en français "faire de l'esboufre")
And Internet touristique affaires...

PART ONE

Mogette La Deux-Chevaux Coquette,
(Sous forme de son alter-ego Mogette Miniature)
...Pas bête...
Auteure de mauvaises poésies pas banales
Est allée, lundi dernier
To meet seven amis australiens, on a canal...

And for this aventure
Mogette went to Le Canal du Midi, bien sûr...

From La Roche sur Yon
To sunny Carcassonne
Is environ
Six hundred kilomètres
Of autoroute rapide et... payante...

Six hundred kilomètres, mas pal!
Ce n'est rien en Australie Occidentale
Avec une superficie de cinq fois la France
Deux millions et demi kilomètre carrés, pour information,
But seulement
Trois millions of habitants...

De toute façon...

Le Proprio et Mogette Miniature
Did zoom at cent trente à l'heure
From Vendée to Castelnaudary

They paused for lunch of cassoulet
A local spécialité
Made with Lingots de Vendée
Que les Vendéens on appelé...
"Mogettes"...

And after, on the autoroute
After a série of petites proûts
Mogette dixit à son compagnon:

"The day is beautiful cher Proprio
Il fait très beau,
So please open le window
For a little bit of fresh air,
While we look for our amis
Australiens over there...

Eh bien,
Ami(e)s Mogettistes

The moment was not triste

When Mogette saw five copains antipodiens
Les cinq copains...
On Le Chemin,
Pas loin
From le Port de Plaisance du Canal
Avec ses bateaux de location,
Proposés par Internet
...petits palais flottants
En plastique blanc...

...Le chemin qui va
 Vers Le Centre Ville
Of a charming Roman town called Bram

On Le Chemin
...La Deuche  cria
"Here I am!"

And there and then
Proprio met his colleagues antipodiens again...
Friends from nearly forty years ago!
With hugs (étreintes) and smiles...

"Que du bonheur!"
Exclama La Deux-Chevaux...
"Quelles belles
 Retrouvailles!"

And if you click on the link below, le lien
You will go to Part Two,
And share
Vingt-Quatre heures
On Le Canal du Midi,
En compagnie
De seven kangourous...
 ...Navigateurs,
Puis Mogette Miniature et son propriétaire.

Le Canal!
Ses rossignols, ses écluses, ses platanes
Et ses nombreux bateaux de location
Magnifiques, en plastique
Et, malheureusement pour certains
...de temps en temps en dysfonctionnement...
...Ou simplement
En panne

With un équipage Australien of aventuriers intrépides
Pas de problèmes, que des solutions!
Smiling vétérans d'aventures fluviales, no need for speed
Just cruising the ruban du Canal

Une expédition peu...

Banale.

Autumn Leaves, Summer Memories

Click on pic to visit Lurs...
Mogette la Deux-Chevaux Coquette
Very bad bilinguale poète
(But for transport sans complexité
Or sans limites,
She is the BEST…)
Mogette...
And her Propriétaire
Were enjoying automne afternoon air
At home in Vendée, France of Ouest…

Proprio, day-dreaming in faux-bilingual rêverie
Was thinking of Shakespearian prose
Two Mogettes?
Like « All The World's A Stage… »
« Être ou Not To Be… »
And other Franglais mixed-up stuff like those...

Clearing fallen leaves
Feuilles tombées...
From the Ash tree géant…
Which,
In French
Is called frêne
In Spanish
Fresno…
And in Latin
Fraxinus Excelsior

Anyway…
The leaves are dead now
Des Feuilles Mortes…
Red and gold; green no more…
After the first frost, la première gelée blanche.
first frost

Mogette’s Propriétaire
 Paused
For just a minute or two,
In crisp air
… of November
To remember
Un moment magique
From last Summer…

…When
With three
 Amis
 Parisiens
In a résurgence
Un lac, a lake
A carrière inondée, a disused quarry
There...
 Next to the river Durance
In Haute Provence…

They swam;

Une baignade extra-ordinaire...
Perhaps un kilomètre
Under blue skies and in mild milky...eaux
With purple perfume of lavande
Through tickling reeds châtouilleurs
 (in French : roseaux)…

Enjoying an Instant…
Mogette found a giant mushroom...

Between
La Montagne de Lure, grey-green
Les Pylônes Electriques rouges et blancs...
And
Les Alpes de Haute Provence, mountains magnifiques
And
Majestueuses…

And there,
Dear Mogettistes
Would you believe ?
Was born une idée :
Why not share
This winter
Cet hiver
... with Proprio’s amis français
And amies françaises…
A a bit of…langue anglaise
In version…
Immersion ?

So watch this space
Mogettistes, dear
For gentle developments, here...

Which
With a little luck and some effort...
 Will help to dé-stresse
And to réduire
The irrational
(But perhaps natural)
 ...Réticence or...fear...
Many French people
Have here…
Of
La Langue De...Shakespeare.

Château des Cèdres

Click on pic for Château des Cèdres website
Mogette La Deux-Chevaux Coquette
Very bad bilinguale poète
Had a happy meeting yesterday
With propriétaires très charmants
Of a château extraordinaire in Mouchamps...

Mouchamps, as Mogette thinks you know
Is the resting place of Clemenceau...
Georges, Ministre de Guerre quatorze-dix-huit
Repose depuis 1929
... in le hameau Le Colombier
In La Vallée
Of river Petit Lay

And at Le Petit Château des Cèdres
You can have Breakfast and a Bed
In une ambience of Style of Twenties
With an authentique
Magnifique
Salon de Thé
Au rez de Chaussée...

Chaque chambre has a theme:
There is Coco Chanel...
(Chambre Numéro Five, as well!)
Because Coco's first perfume expert
(We call him a "nez"
Contact Alan directly for details of a Deux-Chevaux Clemenceau
discovery tour, by  2CV or classic Citroën DS...
En bon français!)
A man called Monsieur Baud
Was, at the time of Clemenceau
The 1920 proprio
Yes!..of this Petit Château...

Et après, La Chambre Guilbaud:
A Commandant, aviateur gallant
Who was also a son of ...Mouchamps
And who disappeared in Artic seas
A la fin des années Twenties...

Chambre Clemenceau too
(Fenêtres et volets d'ORIGINE,
Restaurés avec rigueur et passion...)
With a panoramic view
Of Vendée bocage campagne
Yes, open le Champagne!

There is a gîte in the Orangerie
A spa with water at 37 degrees...
(Even a fitness room, les amis!)
And, especially
The warm welcome of propriétaires
Agnès and Frédéric...

And now dear friends, French or Anglophone
You can visit
Le Web-Site alone:
And see the beauty of this Lieu Unique...

Coin(g) Coin(g)...

Click on Mogette and Coings for classic Edward Lear nonsense
 poem and "slices of quince"...
Mogette La Deux-Chevaux Coquette
Very bad bilinguale poète
... adores the autumn odours
Of champignons...
...Mousserons
parasols blancs, or nez-de-chats cats' noses
or field mushrooms, called rosés...
After the blackberries, or mûres
...the ripe fruits mûrs
Odeurs of local wine bouillonnant, fizzing, fermenting...

And
Bien sûr...

Les COINGS;

En anglais we say
"Quince"
Which rhymes with mince...

Quinces are
The autumn fruit par
... excellence
And by far
The most parfumé, duvet-covered star
Of la saison
...Golden.

En Español, or Castellano
We call the quince or coing
"Membrillo"...

And you can,
If you go
Walking on El Camino
Buy, for uno Euro
... in any little village supermercado
Carne de Membrillo...

Oh, but no!
Carne de membrillo...
 is not MEAT!

...But rather a special fruité treat
With beaucoup d'énergie
For pilgrim peregrinos
... walking adelante
...and other caminantes
Or you, or me...
Click on champignons for Mogette's Camino blog
Especially, mes amis...
If you eat it with

Of Basque Country)

"Coin-Coin", Mogette?
Or "Coing-Coing"?
(The "G" is silencieux
For those of us
Who parler français
Sans accent marseillais...)

Do not forget,
That French canards,
 ...who give us  foie gras
And are...
 ...unique
Make that sound onomatopéique

But, as Mogette has been shown
 ...any canard anglophone
Says "Quack-quack"
In a different tone.

So préparons et contemplons
Les changements of saisons
With notre pâte de coing

Culasses and Culbuteurs Part Two

IV.
Une heure plus tard...
Avec Mogette Miniature
In the summer fleurs
And Big Mogette
The sun was down below
The canopy of oak trees
(Quercus Robusta, if you, chers et chères Mogettistes
Would like to know)

And Proprio was busy, très occupé encore
Adjusting Mogette’s CULBUTEURS

« A funny word, un mot bien drôle »
Remarqua la Petite Citroën…
« What do you mean, mon petit chou, my dear profiterolle ? »
Demanda le Propriétaire...

« Eh bien…CULBUTEUR, bien sûr ;
From the word  CUL, (en anglais BOTTOM or, more informally, BUM  )
Or BUTT  or ASS en anglais Americ-an,

In French the cylinder head is CULASSE…

Oui, oui, CUL-ASS, you see !
As in Cul de Sac, an anglais IMPASSE…
And en français nous avons « Cul de poule »
(which is a mixing bowl, and not the bum of a chicken...)

And BUTEUR, which is not butter or beurre,
...or margarine
But from the verb « BUTER »
Which, en anglais is to KICK
A buteur is a footballeur...

Proprio. See what I mean?"

Proprio répondit:

« My dear Mogette
Merci
For the KICKING of ASS  étymologie
Cependant, however, as you can see
I am more interressé
Just as soon as you can reach those pedals, mon petit...
In making sure your culbuteurs are réglés
At précisément
Huit millièmes de pouce
(or the équivalent in dixièmes of millimètres)

Bicoz

If they are trop large or too… LOOSE
Your moteur will not start when FROID
And I, Proprio will be LE ROI
Des CONS : a silly ASS
And, when hot,  your CARBU
it will…
TOUSSE.
And then, what shall we do ?

And Mogette, who has many connaissances and much knowledge
Looked across at the green garden hedge
And, very modestly
Delivered another leçon of vocabulary :

"O. U. G. H...
She started off:
A bizarre English collection of four letters
Which I will help you
To undertand a little better...

Voici la leçon, mécano-proprio:
With culbuteurs ajustés, Mogette can climb all day...(Mont Ventoux, 2019)

« in English TOUSSE is COUGH
Which rhymes with OFF
But not with TOUGH or ROUGH
Which sound like FLUFF
And not with BOUGH, or PLOUGH
Which rhyme with COW
COUGH does not rhyme with PETERBOROUGH
Or with THOROUGH

Or THROUGH
Which rhymes with YOU)

« Who, ME ? »
Répondit Le Proprio
Who had stopped listening
A minute or more ago...

"Ma chère Mogette
I love you and your vocabulary antics
But, quelquefois, sometimes
You can become a bit pedantic..."

V.
And there
In the COOLER evening air
Mogette et Propriétaire
LAUGHED OUT LOUD
« LOL » en anglais
Said Proprio
« MDR » traduisit la CeeVee Two
Not pédantique du tout :
"Mort De Rire…Et in hilaria ego !"

And so
It goes without saying
Ca va sans dire
That the only thing to do now
Was, après pause pour une BEER
 Bien fraîche,
To put the wings back on La Deuche

Then, allons-y et Go Go Go
En route pour les faux-bilingual aventures
With Culasses and with Culbuteurs.

Dixit Mogette, in référence to this blog
« Not beaucoup de philo ici,
Principalement mauvaise poésie,
et comme référence mécanique,
 A bit shit, aussi. »

I.
A HOT summer evening
Belle soirée d’été
Of deux-mille dix-neuf

Odeurs of August fleurs
Hummingbird moths
Macroglossum Stellatarum/Hummingbird hawkmoth/Papillon Colibri. Merci Wiki.
Dipping, sipping nectar
Of lavender...

Mogette
The 2CV Coquette
Was prête
For une révision
Complète ;

« Dear Proprio »
Dixit La Deux-Chevaux
« How far can we go
To prepare my annual  voyages estivaux ? »

« All the way, ma chère »
Répondit le Propriétaire
D’un air mécano-nonchalant
Et débonnaire
Qui, avec the habituel très bad bilingual poésie
Was torse nu without his shirt-y
Preparing to get down and to get dirt-y…

II.
The new pièces had all arrived :
Spark plugs (bougies)
And contact breakers…(vis platinés…)
Filtres à huile, essence and air
 Semi-synthétique huile moteur
A courroie, or fanbelt, for the alternateur…

And, spécialement ;
A big yellow TUBE
Of Graisse universelle LUBE-
-RIFIANT
Réjuvénateur  par excellence
From the new brico-shop

Black plastic colliers and silver gaffa tape
Which, en France, we call « Gros Scotch »
(Very sticky, but not Whisky)...

A wink of eye to Forty Shades of Gris ?
Mogette en Strip-Teaseuse...

Last but not least…
A mega- boîte of blue…
…Latex
…Gloves.

« Oh dear »
Soupira Mogette
Those gants of examination médicale
Will help to keep your fingers clean
Or « propre » my dear Proprio
When opérations become
A little...
… delicate
If you understand what I mean »

And Proprio, pour une fois, started feeling
A little HOT under the collar
With Mogette’s commentaires
In the warm air
And, peut-être
The heat of the evening there…

III.
Dix minutes plus tard…
Voilà Mogette
En position
 On the summer gazon
On two rusty ramps, purchased second-hand and  d’occasion
More than forty years ago
Year of la heatwave canicule
En Angleterre,
When Proprio was a student and a holiday ice-cream vendor there…

Ice cream in mille neuf cent soixante-seize, dear Proprio !
Exclama Mogette
«What a clever coup ! »
« Oh yes, ma belle
Another bloody story to be had
In poésie very bad
Another day. »

Then Mogette had nothing more to say
While Proprio went into the garage
To put on his latex gloves and his courage…

« And what do you think, dear Propriétaire »
Dixit Mogette, when he returned
« Of le nouveau premier ministre British
A genius or a trublion troublemaker ? »

And Proprio
Who was très occupé
With his clé anglaise (SPANNER) de huit millimètres
Removing Mogette’s
 Ailes avants
Her front-wing  outer vêtements
Souria and smiled

And kept le silence…

To be continued...
